Biography
Sheriff Eric J. Weaknecht is a lifelong resident of Berks County. He has been a proud member of the Berks County Sheriff's Department for 26 years. Starting as a deputy sheriff assigned to Court Division in 1984, he later advanced to the Patrol Division and in 1996 was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief Deputy in charge of the Court Division. In 1999, Eric was again promoted, this time to the rank of Chief Deputy Sheriff. As Chief Deputy, his duties were to assist the Sheriff in the overall operation of the department. This included maintaining the budget, all the purchasing for the department, supervising the 4 Assistant Chief Deputies, the Real Estate Administrator, all other deputies and office staff. Eric learned every job in the Sheriff’s Department.
On November 7, 2007 Eric was elected Sheriff by the citizens of Berks County. He was sworn into office by Judge Forrest G. Schaeffer, Jr. on December 31, 2007.
Eric resides in Spring Township with his wife Jessica, daughter Emily, a rescued Greyhound named Gabby and a Puggle named Shelby. Jessica is a life long Berks County resident and a member of the Wilson School District PTO, Greater Reading Young Professionals (GYRP) and Society for Human Resource Management, Berks County Chapter 179 (SHRM).
